Japan Snow Outlook 2026/27 — Regional Dec–Feb Snowfall vs the 10-Year Average, Benchmarked Against Whistler, Val Thorens and Obertauern
Japan's snow outlook, Dec 2026 – Feb 2027
JMA's seasonal outlook leans below normal across every snow-belt region this winter. That mostly shows up as timing, not total snowpack: December typically supplies well under a third of the season's snow here — the bulk falls Jan–Feb — so a slow, warm start is the real risk, not a thin season overall.
Even on a below-normal estimate, Japan's heaviest regions clear Val Thorens and Obertauern several times over, and sit close to or above Whistler — on a station-average floor that undercounts true resort-base snowfall (see the caveat below). Tap a bar-chart marker on the map for the full numbers.
Orange = below-normal, blue = above-normal, darker = higher probability — pixel-matched to JMA's live seasonal outlook map, not a reinterpretation.

Pick a resort and a month — see its region's normal and 2026/27 estimate against Whistler, Val Thorens and Obertauern.
This region ranks #2 of 6 Japan regions shown for february, and its 2026/27 estimate (139 cm) still clears 2 of 3 global benchmarks (Val Thorens, Obertauern) — behind Whistler Blackcomb (147 cm).
